There's a New Infineon In Town
And It's Called Sears Point
This track follows the line of what I was looking for in the Infineon article--not exactly what I had in mind (because I was trying to work up the modern track) but the configuratiion seems to be the most realistic for NR03. This track was created by Phantom from an N2 conversion and is available at his website. Various versions are mentioned in this Infineon discussion at The Pits.
Update: March 2008!
The transformation from test track to race track has become a reality. Fortine_oo has put the time in to turn this into a realistic pre-1995 Sears Point for NR2K3. Changes (as mentioned in the Readme) include:
- Added a full compliment of series specific
- Reworked track surroundings/walls to simulate a pre 1995 circuit. Armco/walls are at locations similar to the era, but to cover up holes in the scenery, there is more than there actually was.
- Minimal changes to signage.
- Pitstalls for 32 cars. (There is a pit exit lane that was not of this era, but this version has one to help avoid ai mishaps.)
- All new lp's and (ai) fast setups. Player setups made exclusively for Sears Point IR.
- Each series has a "player" setup which was used to run the laps listed in "fastest laps".
- New track logo and track info ( map ).
- New high-res horizon, with horiz.3do conversion by stefanodimera72.
- Some camera work to eliminate hidden cars in TV1, TV2, and Spectator views
Driving Sears Point
This should be told by fortine_oo but my own observations have shown that 1:33.xxx times are possible in the PTA mod (which is my preferred mode). Actually I found out after I wrote this that 1:32.xxx times are possible (not by me). There is a driving primer available at Nor-Cal Shelby Club that will actually provide some pretty good driving tips for the NR2K3 experience. That said, I find this a very technical track (by whatever definition I'm using this week) where getting slowed down and hitting your marks are crucial to good consistant laps (which I rarely achieve). The AI close fast so I do a lot of mirror driving into the slower corners (Radt lets them pass and then works on their bumper to get them turned around or off-track).

A few photos for those unconvinced that a N2 conversion can make a nice transition.
